Through the Ardennes to Luxembourg
When we could leave the “big city” behind us and came to the Belgian Ardennes we felt much better. We were just surrounded by old stone buildings, farms and nature. If the weather would have been better (e.g. more than 5 degrees) we could have enjoyed it. 😉 Unfortunately, warming up during a break in Aywaille was impossible…
We proceeded through a lot of hills and small mountains and in the end we even took a earthy shortcut through a forest on a hill. in Hébronval Florian and Laura made us a cordial welcome and we could finally warm up.
The next morning began with drizzling rain but at least the hills should be over. After about 20 km we also entered a new country: Luxembourg. There isn’t really much to see but beautiful landscape and some farms. The people were mostly very friendly but we were a bit confused about having to communicate in German again. 😀
In the evening we arrived in the small but pretty city Diekirch where we could stay with Felix and Vera in their big lovely house. Felix has been cycling through Japan once and absolutely recommends it. Thanks again for your hospitality! 🙂
When we proceeded the next morning it was raining again but at least we had only about 40 km to go to “the city”, which is how the Luxembourgers call their capital. However, we were rather annoyed by the bad weather and not even the delicate Pasteis de Belem in a Portoguese café (there are a lot of Portoguese immigrants in Luxembourg) could warm us up.
Therefore we were really glad to finally arrive at the house of Jacques’ mother. Jacques is just living at home for a little while after having finished his studies and could gladly convince his mother to take us in for one night. 🙂 With her we could indulge a bit in memories of Vienna which she calls her favourite city.
Lucky enough, we had some time to have a look at the city which we found is very beautiful with its historic buildings. The different levels where the roads are on make it look a bit surreal, especially at night.
As an exception we also had some beer and dinner with Jacques in the city and then we had to say goodbye again. Big thanks to you as well for your hospitality!
